CSLB Alerts Central Coast Residents about Illegal Electrician
From CSLB's email newsletter...
CSLB Alerts Central Coast Residents about Illegal Electrician
CSLB investigators ask consumer victims to come forward
SACRAMENTO – Contractors State License Board (CSLB) investigators have determined that substandard, dangerous electrical work performed by an unlicensed individual, Danny Jess Langley, of Langley Construction, who operates throughout the Central Coast region, may have put his customers at risk and are asking them to contact authorities.
Langley, who pleaded guilty to unlicensed contracting in 2011, was located at a Carmel Valley job site last year by local law enforcement authorities and CSLB's Statewide Investigative Fraud Team (SWIFT). In addition to roofing and painting work, Langley was found to have performed electrical work.
Subsequent review of Langley's work by an industry expert determined that the electrical work was not performed to state codes and presented a dangerous fire hazard. Langley uses the state contractor license number 657400, which was never issued to him, and is believed to still be working in the Central Coast. He also asks unsuspecting consumers to pull owner-builder construction permits from local building departments since he is unable to as an unlicensed individual. This places property owners at financial risk for project costs, employee payroll, and jobsite injuries.
He faces multiple felony counts at a trial currently set in Monterey County next month.
Langley is known to advertise and contract for home repair and remodeling jobs, specifically electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work. Anyone who was previously or currently is working with Langley for any type of construction work is asked to contact either CSLB's Monterey SWIFT office at 831-620-1374 or Fresno SWIFT office at 559-490-0580. If Langley has performed work on your property, CSLB encourages you to have it inspected by a qualified building inspector.
CSLB encourages consumers to always "Check The License First" by visiting www.cslb.ca.gov or calling CSLB's toll-free automated line 800.321.CSLB (2757). Also, visit CSLB's website for tips about how to hire a contractor.
The Contractors State License Board licenses and regulates California's 300,000 contractors, and is regarded as one of the leading consumer protection agencies in the United States. It operates under the umbrella of the CaliforniaDepartment of Consumer Affairs. In fiscal year 2011-12, CSLB helped recover nearly $36 million in ordered restitution for consumers. More information and publications about hiring contractors are available on CSLB's website or by calling (800) 321-CSLB (2752). You also can sign up to receive CSLB email alerts.

FLA Supreme Court Bitch Slaps FLA Gov. Rick Scott and the Legislature
Florida Gov. Rick Scott and the Legislature went too far when they created a law on behalf of a developer in an effort to stop a lawsuit filed by a homeowners association, the Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday.
Scott signed a bill last year that was designed to end a lawsuit filed against Maronda Homes of Florida, Inc., by a homeowners association over defective road and drainage construction that caused flooding and erosion, damaging roads and properties.

Massive Code Problems That Are Too Expensive to Fix Will Shut Down Dallas Condo Complex - Firefighter Died at Complex Fighting Massive Blaze

"It's sad to say, I hate a person had to die for them to see," Barajas said.
Tenants and the homeowners association have been in embroiled in lawsuits from insurance money involving another six-alarm fire four years ago.
The letter to homeowners says a judge "is not going to allow the property to remain open if it has code violations."

Trex Company Reminds Consumers of Replacement Program for Defective Decking Manufactured between 2002 and 2007 for Sale in the Western United States
Trex Company Reminds Consumers of Replacement Program for Defective Decking Manufactured between 2002 and 2007 for Sale in the Western United States
Warns of Potential Hazard if Decking Not Replaced
WINCHESTER, Va., July 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Trex Company, Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing products, is once more notifying consumers in 16 western states who may have purchased defective Trex decking product suffering from surface flaking to contact the company and receive replacement materials. Trex has previously announced that a small percentage of decking boards manufactured at its Fernley, Nevada plant between 2002 and 2007 suffered from surface flaking due to a manufacturing problem.
Trex is issuing this reminder notice because it has received a small number of claims where badly flaking decking boards that had not yet been replaced broke.
Trex strongly encourages homeowners in the western United States to closely examine their decks, particularly in high traffic areas, for any signs of cracking or peeling. If a homeowner notices evidence of flaking, they should contact Trex immediately and participate in the established replacement program.
In 2010, a class action settlement was approved that provides for a comprehensive replacement program for any decking affected by surface flaking. Under the terms of the settlement, Trex replaces any decking boards suffering from the defect, and provides a portion of the labor payment to replace the decking.
The surface flaking issue only affected a small percentage of product manufactured at Trex's Fernley, Nevada plant between 2002 and 2007, and sold in the western United States (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada,New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming). This issue does not apply to any Trex products sold in other states or to any product manufactured at Trex's Fernley, Nevada plant after 2007, when industry-leading manufacturing improvements and rigorous testing were instituted to ensure the quality and structural integrity of Trex decking products.
In general, Trex recommends that homeowners always monitor their decks to ensure the structure is in good condition. Any issues should be rectified as soon as possible, as the situation can grow more severe with the passing of time.
"Trex fully stands behind the quality of its product and urges consumers affected by this defect to remedy the potential safety hazard by taking advantage of the existing replacement program," said Ronald Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. "The replacement program currently in place has been very successful in reaching consumers who purchased defective decking materials. We encourage affected consumers who have not yet participated in our program to contact us as soon as possible to replace their decking materials."
Consumers may download a claim form and instructions on how to file such form atwww.trex.com/legal/classactionsettlement.aspx, or they may call 1-800-BUY-TREX (1-800-289-8739).

Nevada Coatings Doesn't Like Us and I'm Blue...
Bill Leys
follow me on twitter @deck_expert
Dear Nevada Coatings,
Thank you for your feedback.
I will remove you from our mailing list.
I am very happy to hear that I provide a bit of levity in your life by making you laugh at our moniker.
You'll also be thrilled to know that I am sharing your claim of having a UL Class A Test (you don't say that it's a UL 790 test though, can you at least confirm that it is UL 790 you tested to? with the world via our blog at www.waterproofdeckcoatingadvice.blogspot.com by posting the chain of emails we have here.
We will let the people be the judge and make their own decisions. I am mystified why any manufacturer would not want to dispel the claim that they don't have a Class A rated ASTM E108 or UL 790 test. I have checked at UL's website and nothing shows up under Nevada Coating Systems. Is it under a different name perhaps?
Here is a screen shot from today showing zero results at UL.com. So I am encouraging you to provide a copy in the interest of dispelling my claim that without a copy of your report, or I'll accept a letter from UL saying that you do...
I hate to say but your credibility is less than stellar when it comes to sworn testimony so I can't really accept just your word that you have a Class A report.
As shown in Krubinski vs. Aiello / Dearborn Capital Mgt http://www.cftc.gov/ucm/groups/public/@lrdispositions/documents/legalpleading/idkrubinski020199.pdf
; scroll down to page 95 where the judge said quote "... finds him (Krubinski) to be generally incredible and on most matters, less credible than respondents witnesses."
;
Wasn't there a SLAPP suit you lost badly to Scott Schmutzer where it was shown you had been untruthful about witnessing a lock being cut? I know I have that info in my files somewhere...didn't they order you to pay his attorney fees?
So you can appreciate my concern to ensure that while I'm publishing your claims saying that you have a Class A UL report, I'm saying provide it so we can verify. Trust but verify. Or in your case, I insist on written verification from independent sources.
If you do have a UL 790 for Granite Deck that you can forward then I'll print a retraction.
So rejoice in the shared information/claim that you have a Class A test...
Thanks
;

To be clear, we are not providing you feed back. We are simply asking you to take us off your mailing list as we do not wish to receive your spam emails or be associated in any way with you or your companies.
To clarify, you are not entitled to our fire testing information since you are not a client of Nevada Coatings either are you an authority on this issue, waterproofing issues or any construction in general. You are simply an improperly licensed contractor continually impugning others work and efforts by touting yourself as an expert on a web site, when you are not…
Nevada Coatings will not participate in your web games, however we will advise you, Nevada Coatings has been thoroughly tested through Underwriters Laboratory and has achieved a Class A Fire Rating a number of years ago. Therefore if you were truly honest and trying to make a difference in the coatings industry, you would let the two or three readers of your web page know Nevada Coatings has confirmed a Class A Fire Rating, but I doubt you have the courage to be honest.
To confirm our position, we will not be submitting any documents to you at any time and this will be our last correspondence with you.
Thank you

Hello Nevada Coatings,
We appreciate all opinions and feedback whether its positive or negative.
As the Deck Expert, I always extend the courtesy of allowing anyone to submit corrections to anything we've said or published.
If our data is incorrect and you do indeed have a ICC-ES report or a Class A report per ASTM E108 or UL790 please submit such so we may print a correction.
However, please know we are entitled to publish our opinions and allow our readers to make their own conclusions about Granite Deck and the company that markets a Carboline/ Reactamine polyurea as a bona fide pedestrian traffic coating.
So please feel free to submit your corrections for review and publication.
Dont forget we are running a ad special; for only $500 a year we run your logo ad at Deckexpert.com and www.waterproofdeckcoating advice.com
Thank you

The Himalayan Times Discusses Waterproofing For Monsoon Season-How to Waterproof Your home This Monsoon Season
If i ever get out of here,
That's what I'm gonna do.
Go Waterproof-Katmandu...
KATHMANDU: The monsoon season is here and if you have not prepared your house for this season it could lead to problems. Leakage, seepage and dampness are few problems that emerge during this season.
Stakeholders state that water leakage and seepage problems can occur due to reasons such as cracks in surface area, not using densified concrete at construction, lack of proper mixing of concrete, and not following quality construction techniques.
Senior architect ML Kayastha says, "As per the saying 'prevention is better than cure', house owners should compulsorily waterproof their structure if they don't want to face leakage and seepage.
