DURADEK Decking Products Qualify for LEEDS Points

For Immediate Release – December 15, 2009 – Surrey, BC

Duradek is very pleased to announce that our products qualify for LEED points

LEED-certified buildings and products qualifying for LEED points are the hot topics in today’s environmentally-conscious climate.
Duradek is very pleased to be a GREEN leader in our industry and can qualify for LEED points for Heat Island Effect on Roofs as well as points for Regional Materials.

We already know that, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding PVC, the cradle to grave definition of ‘Green’ shows PVC products (and Duradek) in a much more favorable light than the alternative products.

-          Duradek is lightweight, so less structural requirements are necessary to support it and less energy is consumed in transportation as compared to EPDM and concrete pavers.
-          Duradek is a one-step application which compares favorably to the multiple application and re-application requirements of a liquid applied system, saving many job trips which in turn consumes much less energy.
-          Duradek has a long life span, which means less on-going restoration requirement of the structure and less materials going into the landfill.
-          Duradek has no chemicals that will leach into the ground at the end of life, unlike pressure treated wood.

ASTM International
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Papers are invited for the Seventh Symposium on Roofing Research and Standards Development, which will be held Dec. 4-5, 2011, at the Tampa Marriott Waterside in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the Dec. 4-7 standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium provides a forum for contributing to the fundamental understanding of acceptable roof performance, with the primary emphasis being current research and development work. The symposium will center on the influence of both laboratory and field investigations in the development of standards for roofing and waterproofing materials and systems.

The symposium is intended to address topics describing research and standards development for both low-sloped and steep roofing systems including the following: roof system durability and service life prediction; roofing in a sustainability era; synthetic single-ply roofing systems; polymer-modified and conventional built-up bituminous roofing; self-adhesive membrane roofing; liquid-applied membrane roofing; advances in reinforcing fabrics for bituminous roofing; advances in adhesion technology for synthetic and bituminous roofing; spray polyurethane foam roofing systems; metal roofing systems; performance of shingles, tiles and other steep roof coverings; wind and fire resistance; environmental factors such as cool roofing and vegetative (green) roofing; technology of roof coatings; impact of computer technology and simulation on roofing standards development; and advances in waterproofing.

Interested presenters must submit a 300-500 word abstract online at www.astm.org/D08symp1211.htm by May 4, 2010. Symposium chair Walter J. Rossiter will notify you by Aug. 4, 2010, of your paper's acceptability for presentation. Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Journal of ASTM International (JAI).  Dave Ratliff instructs us                Particpants practice          Lave Flow Sample

So on Thursday I drove south to go to Quest Building Products demo and hands on training on their Kretus Group line of epoxy coatings, including Lava Flow, Polyaspartic Urethanes and Metallic Epoxy flooring.

I had a great time, learned a lot, met a few new folks and enjoyed a great BBQ hosted by Quest. I'm looking forward to bringing these flooring systems to SLO County!

Here's some good books and products to consider for your epoxy job...
