An Easton construction company faces federal fines of up to $48,510 for alleged safety hazards at a job site in Lowell last year.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Monday it found nine "serious" violations of workplace safety by Folan Waterproofing and Construction that could have caused "death or serious physical harm" to workers at the Lowell site.

Folan, a family-owned company in business since 1969, said it disagreed with OSHA's findings and hopes it can resolve the issue in a meeting with OSHA on May 23.

By Deanna Wheeler

It took less than a minute after a resident at the Willows at the Lake condominium complex started his gas grill in an attempt to cook dinner for flames to begin shooting up from the appliance. Moments later, the fire was out of control and consuming his deck, his home and the building.
"It seemed like an eternity for the fire department to get here," he said the next morning, reviewing the damage.
