This new list of experts is being created as a response to a requirement in the recent British Standard BS 8102:2009 -the Code of Practice for the Protection of Structures Against Water From The Ground.
This British Standard sets out a need for any design team creating underground rooms to include a recognised waterproofing specialist for the project.
The register is now open to PCA members who meet the requirements of the scheme, and operate within the structural waterproofing industry.
A place on the register is granted to an individual and is based on his or her skills, knowledge and experience. All members listed on the register of waterproofing design specialist must also carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and be a participant in the PCA Continuous Professional Development (CPD) scheme.
Steve Hodgson, general manager of the PCA, said: "BS 8102:2009 states that a waterproofing specialist should be included as part of the design team so that an integrated waterproofing solution is created.
"The code says that waterproofing specialist should be suitably experienced, be capable of devising solutions that accommodate the various project constraints and needs, and provide the design team with information and guidance that assists with and influences the design, installation and future maintenance of the waterproofed structure.
"Until now there has been no register or central point where people with this level of expertise can be located.
"Most surveyors who have obtained this qualification are embedded within companies and so finding the qualified people quickly and efficiently can be difficult.
"Now, the availability of this list will ensure that a properly-vetted and approved waterproofing design specialist is available and accessible to the leader of any design team that has to consider buildings that are wholly or partly below ground.
"It will enable architects and builders to quickly identify individual practitioners who can design and plan underground waterproofing and so conform with the recommendations set out in BS8102."
