From Roofing.com Roofing Contractor Forgot Flashing on Roof Deck
Roofing Contractor Forgot Flashing on Roof Deck
by egregiouserrors
My roof was built 8 years ago and I started to notice a leak from my roof deck over my dining room. Come to find out that the original roofer used a LIFEDECK AL waterproof system without installing any flashing and it created huge issues with the sublayer and slope that we built and it needs to be completely redone.
He originally told me it had a ten year warranty, then later told me after six years when I called complaining of cracks that I should redo it every three years.
I've uploaded a video of the damage to YOUTUBE titled: (Huge Roof Deck Waterproofing error!) that I can't seem to put a link here, but you can find it, if you care to look it up on Youtube and see what damage it caused. It looks like almost like fire damage to the plywood.
My question is, do I have any recourse against my original roofer, or should I just move on and soak it up?
Read the advice here at the link below...

SHOCKING EMAIL! - San Luis Obispo Decking Contractor Appears to Be Threatening His Client
![]() |
| The tile manufacturer specifies to use a bag to grout their Saltillo Tile, not a sponge like what the contractor is using as caught on the security camera's on the house. |
![]() |
Poor layout of the tile caused a edge of the deck to be filledin with grout.
The tile should be at the edge instead.
|
| The contractors bid proposed to use Nevada Coating Systems products, but the actual product used was different as seen in this picture taken by the Morro Bay client. |

Importance: High
Ron,Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I have been rather busy in the rail install prep work prior to the posts being installed by others. First off, I did not elect to do the install. You may recall, the entire project was given to you as you said you were a "one stop Shop" and you could and would install our existing glass. I trusted you and have had to rethink what has been done and what has not.X was not on sight to oversee anything. In fact he stated he only had 30 minutes to show myself and an installer his layout and measurements.I will not go into it further at this time but will certainly look forward to a final disposition to end this night mare within the next week or two.I have paid you in advance for your services and trusted that you would follow through as agreed to in your written contract as well as your verbal agreements. I suggest you allow others to finish your work and have a respectable resolution to the final settlement.I offered X half payment and the balance within a few days. He declined, and said he felt I should not have even been asked to pay them direct. After all, his contract is with you and not me. The only reason he was on site was to make sure the layout was going to work as his measurements were from the unfinished facia. My biggest fear was the blocking not being adequate and the tile having not enough mortar to carry the pressure of the bolts when tighten down.

From Duradek - How to Clean and Care for Your Vinyl Deck Before Winter
Before the really heavy rain or snow takes over for the chilly winter months, now is a smart time to give your deck a cleaning and inspect the details that will ensure the superior installation of your Duradek vinyl deck is still performing as expected and protecting your home from potential water damage.
Cleaning Your Duradek Deck
Your vinyl deck should be cleaned at least 4 times a year with the Duradek vinyl cleaner available from your local Duradek dealer. This cleaner is designed specifically for vinyl and will NOT leave harmful chemical residue like many household cleaners may. Use warm water and a stiff broom, scrubbing in a circular motion to loosen the dirt. Then simply spray with a garden hose (under pressure) to wash away the loose dirt and flush thoroughly with clean water.

Ohio's AG suing Northeast Ohio contractors - Basement Waterproofing Contractor Accused of
State suing Northeast Ohio contractors
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has announced lawsuits against two Northeast Ohio home improvement contractors.
The lawsuits accuse Mark Walker of Avon, and his business, All American Restoration, and Wayne Given of Silver Lake, doing business as Basement Waterproofing Solutions, of failure to deliver and performing shoddy work.
"When consumers pay thousands of dollars for home improvement services they never receive as promised, there's a problem," DeWine said. "We are committed to enforcing Ohio's consumer protection laws and holding violators accountable."
