PCBC Show at San Francisco Is "Pretty Busy"

Deck Expert stopped in to walk around yesterday at PCBC; there is activity and while the show is much smaller (one hall, as oppsed to 2+ in past years) there were plenty of builders walking around.

Several of our sponsors were displaying there products and busily scanning badges for product literature to be mailed out to prospects and future followup.

Partners Jan Bagnall & Jeff Zember
of Pli-Dek were at their 10th
PCBC show.

Mer-Ko Parex displayed as well with a large corner that brought in traffic.

From a Vendor With a Booth at PCBC " There are lots of people here today"

One of my advertisers and I were conversing a little while ago while he is on the floor displaying at PCBC, which opened today at Moscone Center in San Francisco.

He told me that he is quite pleased with the traffic on the show floor today...

Maybe there is some new life coming back into the "mostly dead" body of new construction. (With credit to Billy Crystal from his role in Princess Bride).

Anyway, head on over to see what is happening and meet your peers on the floor.

I'll be there tomorrow, wearing a T shirt with the DeckExpert.com logo...stop me and say hello!

PCBC IS COMING UP SOON!

PCBC is coming up quick! June 17 to June 19, 2009 at Moscone Center San Francisco is where you'll find the latest building information, tools and materials.

Deck Expert will be there visiting all his favorite manufacturer's and seeing what's up in waterproofing and deck coatings.

Pli-Dek and Mer-Ko, sponsors of DeckExpert.com will be there, as will AVM Industries and Multicoat.

Notably absent are Crossfield/Dex-O-Tex, Hill Brothers, Westcoat and others who have been at the show before...sign of the times perhaps with shrinking show budgets? PCBC is an expensive one to exhibit at.

The rest of us will crowd into hall and make our way around to visit.

Notable speakers include Fareed Zakaria, the host of CNN's Sunday morning show a a reporter for Newsweek and Adam Werbach, Sierra Club president.

Come celebrate PCBC's 50th birthday with your peers!

PLI-DEK wins the Deck Expert's Contest

Having swiped my badge at a number of manufacturer's and vendor booths,
I always wonder when (or if) I'll get my requested information in the mail.

This years winner of my "Get the sales Lit into the customers hands>" contest is PLI-DEK, a manufacturer of deck coatings and epoxy. Monday morning I went to my PO Box and there was their package, already waiting for me...

Jan Bagnall, a partner in the firm explained-"We set up our swipe system so that every badge swiped gets electronically sent to our contact database at the home office. Our staff was assembling and mailing out the packages as the swiped cards came through."

Huh, pretty simple. And effective, I have their information to review, before any other deck coating manufacturer, before anybody else.

Pretty impressive.

A couple years ago I went and worked a booth of a manufacturer; the hours of time, the investment into the show and all the leads that came in went missing or unused somehow, and we ended up with nothing to show for it. They could take a good lesson from PLI-DEK, who certainly isn't wasting their money or time.

PCBC Humming With Activity

Winding it down today, PCBC was pretty busy from reports from several manufacturer's I know are displaying.

Mer-Ko, with parent Parex/LaHabra is there...they got some serious real estate tied up in prime spot...

Pli-Dek has a nice looking booth too. Pli-Dek has snappy new literature and binders at their booth waiting for you.

I got a great sample from Multi-coat, their Slatex Systems Below Grade Waterproofing system on a mini-cinder block.

Lots of interesting products, not much new on decking this year that I've heard of. I saw one manufacturer, Quick Drain has a cool stainless steel trough with a snap in cover that looks like it might be adaptable to waterproof decking.

One thing to remember when venting decks in California; new codes require vents that won't let embers in. Gunter Manufacturing 916-652-7424 has 'em. Fire safety is not something to trifle with. These vents will keep you in complaince with California Willand-Urban Interface fire code program.

AVM, Westcoat and Excelelnt Coating/Tufflex are there too, so stop by the show and see the many products and solutions to your building needs.

PCBC NEXT WEEK!

Be there or be square?

Should be interesting to see who is there this year, what's being talked about (soft market) and building products...

See you there on Wednesday...
