Call for Proposals-Waterproof Membranes 2010

Call for Proposals: Waterproof Membranes 2010

Waterproof Membranes 20105 May 2010 - The 4th international conference on Waterproof Membranes will be held at the Maritim Hotel in Cologne, Germany 30 November - 2 December 2010. A welcome reception will be held on the first evening and will be followed by the two-day technical program.
Applied Market Information (AMI), the event organizers, welcome your presentation proposals.
Previous conferences in this series have included presentations on greenroofs, HDPE geomembrane durability, thin-film solar laminates adhered to exposed TPO membrane caps on landfills, installation of tunnel liners, geosynthetics in the Middle East, manufacturing of membranes, and much more.
This year, climate change and sustainability may be of greater importance, as increasingly they are key factors in driving design. Extra demands are being placed on waterproofing as functions are added to the membrane, such as warming and cooling, incorporation in energy generation applications (wind, solar, biogas harvesting), and much more.
Waterproof Membranes 2010 offers a place to network for installers, manufacturers, suppliers, architects and researchers. Industry trends, market data, and new developments are hallmarks of the Waterproof Membranes events from AMI.
Papers are invited on all aspects of waterproofing in roofing and geombrane applications, including:
  • Materials and membrane structures
  • Adhesion
  • Lifetime prediction
  • Sun, wind, fire and chemical resistance
  • Performance testing for extremes of climate
  • Sustainability
  • Market trends
  • Case studies
  • Green roofing, including root resistance
  • Energy generation -- solar and wind power integration
  • Energy conservation -- heating and cooling effects, such as reflectance and insulation
  • Sealing and joints
  • Design and selection of waterproofing
Speakers attend the conference free of charge and have a 30 minute slot including 5 minutes for questions. Papers are required in PowerPoint format 6 weeks prior to the conference. If you would like to speak, please note that the deadline for sending a short proposal summary to Sally Humphreys, business development manager at AMI, is 28 May 2010.
If you have interest in attending, exhibiting or sponsoring, please contact Jenny Skinner at +44 117 924 9442 or email js@amiplastics.com for details regarding registration, tabletop exhibition space, and other opportunities.

From Paint Square Daily News-Low Cost Contractor Software

Contractor Software is Multi-Functional

CheckMate Contractors Suite
Dynamic Systems has announced the release of a low-cost, multi-function Software Suite for Contractors.
The ‘CheckMate Contractors’ Suite integrates Toolroom Tool Tracking, Stockroom Inventory Control, and Time & Attendance, says the Redmond, Wash., software developer.
The product allows the applications to share the inventory database and employee identification codes, making it possible to track tools and documents without time-consuming data entry.
Bar codes are printed on work orders or drawings, badges and labels for tools and inventory. Bar code scanners (either corded to a PC or portable) scan the bar codes during transactions to record the movement or use of the job, document, tool or other item. This information is transmitted to the job foreman, accounting or purchasing to provide the location of important tools, employee attendance information, parts reorder reports and much more.
In addition, a feature called Signature Capture on a portable terminal provides proof of delivery of tools or inventory items.
Dynamic Systems says the software can help reduce late jobs, identify bottlenecks, improve productivity, and provide more accurate job costing and payroll tracking.
“Our customers see a typical payback for the software within three to four months,” said company president Alison Falco.

DeWalt's Trade/Code/Exam and Certification Series of Books Are a Great Tool!

A couple months ago I got an email from Bobby Person at VCengage Learning. They are the published of DeWalt's series of books-on Building Codes, Electrical Codes, etc.Construction Reference guides, exam guides etc. are all covered.
Cengage was looking for someone to write a book on building decks, which they thought I might be qualified and interested...sad to say I'm not a deck builder but as I posted a blog on the search, Bobby was good enough to mail me a couple of books to look at.

I asked for the Building Code Reference

and the Construction Professional Reference book

and got them shortly after our email exchange.
Reading through these 2 books, I am left with a very good impression...I especially like the Building Code Reference book, it's wire bound binding and heavy glossy pages look like they'll take a lot of abuse and use in the field which is where they should be used!

Take a look at the whole series, maybe one of their many available titles would interest you...here are a few I thought would be of interest. Disclosure-I received 2 books free from Dewalk/Cengage. No other compensation is expected.

Dirty Decks Done Dirt Clean...

Yes it's a parody of an AC/DC song...here's the latest video of Central Coast Waterproofing power washing a Desert Crete deck clean. I did this complex about 6 years ago, and now they are cleaning and painting/sealing them again.

While it's well past when they should have been done, surprisingly the decks have done very well and have little damage after 6 years.

Desert Crete is the answer to HOA's and Apartment Residences; easy to care for, hard to damage, inexpensive to reseal.
